A Ruapehu District Councillor is hoping to bring an ice skating rink to Ohakune next winter.
Councillor David Nottage is determined to turn a $100k idea into reality and he is hoping sponsors will jump on board to help.
The plan is to brighten up the winter blues by bringing a portable in a ice skating rink for the winter school holidays next year.
Visitors will get to skate on real ice under a eight-metre diameter dome resembling bubble wrap.
Nottage said the price tag was high but it wasn’t “unobtainable.”
“It’ll be nice to have a permanent ice rink because you’d think it would go hand and hand with skiing and night time activities.”
