Mike Hosking crashed his red Alfa Romeo 4C sports car at a track racing day on Monday – and his wife, broadcaster Kate Hawkesby is taking every opportunity to poke fun at him.

The car – worth $140,000 – incurred quite a bit of damage, but Hosking was let off easy with a bruised thumb. However just six days previously a column by Hosking was published for the NZ Herald, headlined “Mike Hosking: Road crashes aren’t speed-related or tourist-related. It’s idiot-related’.

In the article, he wrote: “Since joining Hampton Downs and taking my car round a track at 220kmh I have not crashed, will not crash, and have concluded I am vastly less likely to be in trouble on a track than I am on a road.”

Jinx?
