A viewer took to Twitter to imply it was wrong to allow gay people on The Chase, according to Metro.co.uk.

“l really think it is mischievous and highly irresponsible of ITV to allow people of this sort to appear on a family show. I feel quite disgusted,” he said.

Anne Hegerty, known on the show as the “Governess”, fired back, telling the man not to be “such a sad f….r”.

She didn’t stop there, correcting the man’s spelling when he attempted a comeback.

Hegerty was labelled a "hero" after the exchange.

Hegerty was labelled a “legend” and a “hero” by Twitter users, with one user saying she was now officially a gay icon.
