Taupō fire brigade needs more volunteers with numbers half what they need to be to service the region.

Currently the Taupō Brigade has just 13 volunteers to support its professional crew and is relying on other brigades for back-up.

Assistant area commander for Taupō, Richard Anastasi, said the Volunteer Operational Unit is meant to have 20-22 volunteers at a time, but with having only half at present it can make call outs difficult when relying on other brigades for help.
