One-hundred and twenty-five years ago women were given the right to vote in New Zealand.
The Ministry for Women, Te Minitatanga mō ngā Wāhine is coordinating events across the country to mark the milestone. Soroptimist International Taupō club secretary, Melanie Plainsted said the club decided a High Tea was the best way to celebrate, as it struck a nice chord within the group.
Gina Rangi will be the guest speaker at the Taupō event and is of Te Arawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Tahu, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Maniapoto descent.
The High Tea will be held at the Lake Taupō Yacht Club, 2pm on Sunday 16 September. Tickets can be purchased by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
