After a wet Christmas the North Island is in for a sunny New Year’s Eve.
But the South Island – where soggy North Islanders looked with envy on Christmas Day – is in for the rain.
Wellington is in for a 22C high day with just the chance of a shower and northerlies dying out.
Auckland and Whangārei would peak in the mid-20Cs with just a bit of morning cloud then fine, while Gisborne, Tauranga and Napier would be much the same though reaching 29C, 27C and 28C respectively.
Masterton would have isolated afternoon and evening showers possible and a 27C high.
