Phuket International Airport is cracking down on tourist activity at Mai Khao Beach, dubbed “Unseen Phuket” in recent years. The beach has served as a unique backdrop for tourist selfies all because of its low-flying planes, which can be spotted frequently in the area.

Snapping a picture with the aircrafts has become a bucket list item for many, but airport officials suggest this type of photography can be extremely hazardous and distracting to the incoming pilots.

They’re so serious, that people caught taking photos inside the airport’s newly-built safety zone near Mai Khao beach could face the death penalty.

Less severe punishments include a fine of up to 40,000 baht (NZ$1800) or a jail sentence of up to 20 years, according to The Sun.
