An oddly shaped kūmara has sold for $245, with all proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The phallic kūmara, dug up in Waiuku, south of Auckland, caused a bit of a stir on auction site TradeMe earlier this week.

Fifty-four people bid on the “veraciously virile” vegetable and more than 1800 people saved it to their watchlist.

Whittaker earlier told Stuff the important thing was to entertain people and to raise money for prostate cancer.

He was “really glad” it went as well as it did: “That’s a pretty reasonable amount for a kūmara, I think.”
