A 5-year-old girl has uttered her first words after being shot three times in the Christchurch terrorist attack March 15th, which left her fighting for her life in hospital.
The little girl was taken to hospital in Christchurch and transferred to Starship children’s hospital in Auckland. She suffered from brain damage and was still unresponsive more than a month after the attack. Her father, who was recovering across the road at Auckland City Hospital, said at the time his daughter could not see or hear and couldn’t even recognise her own parents.
But on Tuesday, his family posted on his Facebook account that his daughter was making progress.
“(The girl) is speaking! (Slowly) English and Arabic!
“Thank you for all your prayers. Now we need to get body control and eyesight back.”
A Givealittle page set up for the family’s recovery had already reached $58,000 in donations.
