The classic McDonald’s french fry is set for an Aussie makeover, with the fast food giant reportedly introducing Australian Maccas’ Cheesy Bacon Fries to its US menus later this year.
The dish, which tops fries with melted cheese and bacon bits, is one of four menu items from McDonalds’ international franchises that will be offered in US restaurants from June, under the heading “Worldwide Favourites”.
Add mayo – and maybe a bit of tomato sauce – to the Cheesy Bacon Fries and you’d be eating the Kiwi fish’n’chip classic Cheezy Weezie.
Cheesy Bacon Fries were trialled for a limited time in select US McDonald’s outlets earlier this year. They were being advertised on the fast food giant’s website today as “golden and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and covered with real cheddar cheese and applewood smoked bacon bits”.
