A section of State Highway 1 north of Atiamuri village, between Taupo and Tokoroa, has closed today (Mon 02 Dec) for up to six days for urgent repairs to the Mangaharakeke Stream Bridge, with all traffic detoured via SH32 and SH30 (via Whakamaru). This detour will add around 20 minutes to a journey between Taupo and Tokoroa.
– Humphrey Rd is a private forestry road with active ongoing logging operations and is neither available nor appropriate as a safe detour route during this closure.
– Cordons are in place at detour points to ensure the safety of both motorists and contractors working on SH1, however local traffic is able to access SH1 either side of the closed bridge.
– All HPMV vehicles with an existing valid permit may use the SH32/SH30 detour while this section of SH1 is closed.
– The detour is an approved overdimension route. However, if you believe your load will be too wide for this route you will need to find an alternative approved OD route or plan to travel after the closure is lifted. Contact the Overdimension Permit Issuing Agency (OPIA) Helpdesk on 0800 683 774.
