The Carrot Park has received a Merit Award in the Outstanding Park category at the Recreation Aotearoa Awards.

The Carrot Park was one of five finalists and, along with Palmerston North’s Ahimate Reserve, was the recipient of a Merit Award in recognition of the high quality achieved in Ohakune for a public space.

The award recognises excellence, innovation, community engagement and efficiency and effectiveness as well as 3 other areas important to Recreation Aotearoa: increasing diversity, greater recognition of Te Ao Māori and awareness of climate change.

Earlier this year the Park won the Recreation Aotearoa 2019 Healthy Park Award and the Keep NZ Beautiful 2019 Kiwi Choice Award.

Recent additions to the Park include lights in the tree at the entrance of the Park and work is currently underway to complete an obstacle course, with the assistance of the NZ Defence Force.
