16th Annual Tussock Traverse
25 January @ 6:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Tussock Traverse offers both keen trail runners and walkers, as well as people new to the excitement of off-road adventures, one of the most scenic and varied courses in New Zealand.
The 26km event course cuts across the heart of the World Heritage Tongariro National Park, starting off at the Desert Road on the Eastern side of the Park and takes in the Rangipo Desert and Waihohonu traverse track before finishing at the Chateau Tongariro in Whakapapa to the West.
Run or walk options include – 26km course, 13km course, 6.5km course.
Compulsory event gear for all distances WILL be checked at pre race registration and might be checked prior to the start and/or during the event on the course. Depending of the weather conditions on the day Victory Events may reduce the equipment requirements if the weather is suitable, please ensure that you bring all compulsory equipment to the event registration on the Friday evening, and also to the event start line as there will be random gear checks before the event briefing.
A wind/rainproof jacket, thermal top and beanie, emergency blanket and fluid must be carried during the race. We recommend carrying a minimum of 2 litres of water for the 21km and 3 litres for the 32km option as there is no safe water supply on the mountain and there will be no drink/aid station stops on the event course.
R-Line electrolyte and Tongariro Water will be available at the Chateau Lawn (finish line) for you to refuel and recover.
