James Michael Tyler, better known as Gunther, th manager of Central Perk in the hit sitcom Friends, has died aged 59.
Tyler announced in June that he had stage 4 prostate cancer, which was diagnosed in 2018. A fan favourite, he was dubbed “The Seventh Friend”
Friends star Jennifer Aniston, who played Gunther’s love interest on the show, posted to Instagram saying “Friends would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the show and to all of our lives. You will be so missed”.
Co-star Courtney Cox followed suit, posting “The size of gratitude you brought into the room and showed every day on set is the size of the gratitude I hold for having known you. Rest In peace James.”
Back in May, Tyler featured on Friends: The Reunion via Zoom, he was unable to make it in person due to health issues. During the reunion, he said “It was the most memorable 10 years of my life, honestly”
“I could not have imagined just a better experience. All these guys were fantastic and just a joy to work with. It felt very, very special.”
