Organiser of Turangi’s food bank Maggie Stewart said she was hoping for a successful collection night on Monday November 12.
“We’re desperate for more food. We’ve been having to buy baked beans recently,” she said.
“The need is getting more, not less, as people are impacted by the increasing cost of living. Working families were are finding it hard to make ends meet, especially when something big happens.
“It might be a one-off and they only come to food bank once, but we’re there to help if we’re needed.”
“Turangi is a very, very generous community. They are just amazing with the amount of support they give us throughout the year.
“We’d love to get all the normal non-perishables which people buy. We’ve got no spaghetti, no pasta sauces. We need toilet paper, shampoo, dishwashing liquid and milk powder.”
