The Spring School Holidays are here, however in some parts of the region so is the rain (not the best combination!)

So to help combat the boredom of being stuck inside endlessly here is SKI’s TOP 5 Indoor School Holiday Activities in the Central North Island

5. Embassy 3, Whanganui & Starlight Cinema, Taupo

Going to the movies! It’s the perfect rainy day activity these holidays and best of all we have two cinemas here in the Central North Island. One at the top of the region, the Starlight Cinema in Taupo, and then there’s Embassy 3 in Whanganui

4. Tongariro National Trout Centre, Turangi

When it’s fine you can alk the banks of the world-famous Tongariro River at the Tongariro National Trout Centre. However, when the rain pours, head inside and check out the Trout Hatchery with its own museum and freshwater aquarium. Learn the history of fishing in Taupo. Feed the trout with special food available for sale from our visitor centre. See wild trout in the streams and at the underwater viewing chamber. Small charge for adults, kids free!

3. New Zealand Glassworks, Whanganui

Tucked away in the old Whanganui Chronicle building is Te Whare TÅ«hua o Te Ao (NZG) the National Centre for Glass Art NZG is an exciting and interactive glass facility open to the entire community. New Zealand Glassworks offers an open access studio to glass artists, runs workshops to all abilities (That’s right you can make your own glass!)

Te Whare TÅ«hua o Te Ao is a favourite for local visitors and tourists alike and a great place to see first-hand, the incredible processes of glass art.

2. The National Army Museum, Waiouru

If you’re travelling along SH1, then this is a MUST DO – The National Army Museum in Waiouru provides access to a unique collection of military exhibits, vehicles, memorabilia, and public research material.

The Museum Gift Shop has an assortment of quality products for any special occasion. Kidz HQ is an interactive area for the children to enjoy; with puzzles, dress up and so much more.

The Mess Tent Cafe offers a fantastic range of food to round off your time at the Army Museum. The National Army Museum is open from 9.00am – 4.30pm seven days a week (with the exception of Christmas Day)

1. Drop Zone, The Landing Taupo

A newcomer to the list of indoor activities here in the Central North Island, Dropzone at The Landing in Taupo was opened in early 2021! The Dropzone is a GIANT indoor entertainment centre with fun for all ages under one roof!

  • Bounce Park
  • Indoor Multi-level Playground

Parents can rejoice knowing the Dropzone has an onsite cafe with freshly brewed Local Coffee and treats, and to top it off there’s also a Pizza and Burger restaurant with a licensed bar
