How to see tonight’s Blood Supermoon!

-

For the first time since 1982, New Zealand’s skies will be lit up tonight with a rare “blood supermoon”

For about 14 minutes on Wednesday night from 11.11pm, the moon will be at its closest point of orbit with the Earth, colliding with a total lunar eclipse – resulting in the first blood supermoon in 39 years

According to Niwa’s latest forecast models, the best places to observe the spectacle would be Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, Manawatū-Whanganui, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman, Canterbury, West Coast, Otago and Southland.

If you’re wanting to capture this rare event, experts suggest using a DSLR or mirrorless camera, with interchangeable lenses. Unfortunately, your phone just isn’t going to cut it!
