Taupo Emergency Department ‘swamped’

-

Lakes District Health Board has issued a warning about the capacity at the Taupō emergency department, saying it has been “swamped” in recent weeks.

In a press statement, the DHB said the emergency department currently had “extremely limited capacity to admit more patients”.

It says staff in the emergency department has been under huge pressure and they need to be able to focus on the sickest patients.

A spokesperson says “Whilst we understand it must be frustrating for patients, staff are all working hard and doing their best. Verbal or physical abuse is never acceptable.”
