-

From the epic 2-2 thriller against Iran to a tough exit against Belgium, wrap up the All Whites’ historic 2026 World Cup run.

The dream run has come to an end, but what a ride it was. The All Whites’ FIFA World Cup 2026™ campaign has wrapped up after a dramatic group stage, leaving Kiwi football fans immensely proud of how our boys stood tall on the world stage after 16 years away.

The Highs: That Epic Opener Against Iran

The tournament kicked off in absolute delirium at Los Angeles’ massive SoFi Stadium. Walking in as heavy underdogs against Iran, the All Whites fought out an epic 2-2 draw. The night belonged to Motherwell star Elijah Just, who etched his name straight into the history books by becoming the first All White ever to score a World Cup brace, including a thunderous volley in the 7th minute that sent Kiwi fans everywhere into meltdown.

The Lows: Heartbreak in Vancouver

Needing a massive result in their final Group G match to advance to the Round of 32, the Kiwis ran into a rampant, 10th-ranked Belgium side at BC Place in Vancouver. The European heavyweights proved a class above, turning on an offensive masterclass led by Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard and playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

Despite a tough 5-1 loss, the All Whites refused to drop their heads. Elijah Just provided one final moment of magic, firing a superb consolation volley past Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois to finish his personal tournament campaign with an incredible three World Cup goals.

While the final standings saw Belgium and Egypt advance from Group G, this young Kiwi squad proved they belong at the absolute top tier of global football. The future is incredibly bright for New Zealand football!
