The clouds have cleared over Wellington! See the latest on road safety and travel advice as the region moves into the recovery phase after the storm.
It’s a welcome sight across the capital today as the sun finally breaks through. After a week of intense rain and challenging conditions, MetService has confirmed that the severe weather event has officially subsided.
While the sunshine is back, the Wellington region is now moving into the recovery and cleaning phase. The city council has already set up storm waste drop-off points (like the Maranui landfill) to help residents get things back to normal. For those traveling from Auckland or around the North Island, the news is positive: major routes like SH2 Remutaka Hill are open, though some local roads are still down to one lane due to slips.
We are currently safe and dry, but please remember that the ground remains saturated. This means the risk of localized slips is still present. If you’re heading out, check the NZTA Waka Kotahi updates before you go and continue to drive to the conditions.
